Cleveland is an old city with a wide range of vibrant neighborhoods, each with a unique demographic and interesting history. Residents of Cleveland know the characters of the city's most popular neighborhoods like the backs of their own hands — but even those who have grown up exploring Little Italy and Ohio City might not fully understand the roots of those communities. In a city that is constantly changing, these areas allow us to take a journey into the past. We delved into six of Cleveland's most historic neighborhoods, uncovering their roots and the beloved landmarks that make them so special. Next time you find yourself in one of these local hot spots, take a look around and try to recognize relics from days gone by!

Halloween is nearly upon us, which means that Cleveland's most prepared ghouls, goblins, princes and princesses are already forming their routes and strategies for a successful night of trick-or-treating. When it comes time to knock on doors, there are several fail-safe methods for filling your bag with sweets. Of course, wearing the perfect costume is a big part of it, but choosing a route that is walkable and filled with friendly, candy-bearing houses is also important. We rounded up the neighborhoods in Cleveland that are the most ideal for trick-or-treaters. So don your costume and ready your sweet tooth, because you're about to get a lot of candy.

The Best Trick-or-Treating Neighborhoods in Cleveland Include:

Old Brooklyn | Shaker Heights | West Boulevard | Parma Heights | Ohio City | Lakewood | Jefferson | Westfield Park | High PointNew Hampton

Old Brooklyn

Make your way to Old Brooklyn, located on the west side of Cleveland, for a warm, welcoming atmosphere, extravagant Halloween decorations, and (most importantly) plenty of candy. Known as an accessible, family-friendly neighborhood, the streets of Old Brooklyn are filled with children of all ages on Halloween night. Make a day of it and check out the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in costume before trick-or-treating starts!

Shaker Heights

This upscale suburb located just east of town is known for its pristine golf courses, safe streets and beautiful homes. The spacious front yards are always filled with crowd-pleasing decorations, and residents of the homes will generously dole out candy to those who approach their door. Regardless of what route you take, you will surely be met with friendly faces and other fun-loving families taking part in the candy hunt.

West Boulevard

As one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Cleveland (and also one of the most picturesque), we couldn't leave West Boulevard off the list. In this area, you will find modern houses, friendly residents, and several safe and fun trick-or-treating routes for the kids.

Parma Heights

Located just east of Pearl Road in the suburb of Parma Heights lies a mecca for trick-or-treaters. Set yourself up on Parma Park near the intersection at Pearl Road, and enjoy nearly a mile and a half of candy-rich real estate running all the way to Pleasant Valley Road. The residents of this street are known to go all-out with their decorations — even playing spooky music to enhance the Halloween experience. If you're lucky, you might even snag a cup of hot apple cider or a bag of freshly popped popcorn.

Lakewood

Nestled on the shores of Lake Erie, Lakewood is a very popular area for families with children to make their homes, which means that residents try to make Halloween a fun-packed event for little ones! We are particularly drawn to trick-or-treating along Edgewater in the northern part of the suburb. Here, the homes are decked out in their spooky best, and there are plenty of treats to go around.

Ohio City

As one of the oldest neighborhoods in Cleveland, Ohio City offers up an unparalleled amount of charm. The residents go all-out for Halloween, slinging pumpkins, fake spiderwebs, eerie skeletons and spooky lights on every surface they can reach. The kids will have a grand time navigating the homes, and, of course, collecting their just reward for ringing the doorbell.

Jefferson

The charming and inviting township of Jefferson goes all out for holidays and festivals, and Halloween night is no exception. Bring the family for trick-or-treating, and admire the beautiful homes and spooky decorations. The streets are safe and walkable, and everyone dresses up in costume to maximize the Halloween spirit!

Westfield Park

Located in Olmstead Township, Westfield Park is a prime destination for families with little ones. The residents welcome trick-or-treaters (usually donning costumes themselves), and dole out handfuls of treats to hopeful candy hunters. Like any great Halloween destination, the lawns are decked out with festive (and sometimes terrifying), decorations, including dry ice for an added misty effect.

High Point

Trick or Treating in Akron & Canton You might want to bring a few extra bags to the High Point development this Halloween — residents here are notoriously generous with the sweets! Mosey on over (you'll find it off of Drake Road in Strongsville, just 20 or so minutes southwest of downtown Cleveland), and get ready for a night you will not soon forget.

New Hampton

Nestled in the Broadview Heights suburb, New Hampton is one of those neighborhoods every Cleveland trick-or-treater needs to hit at least once in their career (if not every year). The decorating often begins weeks ahead of time, and the final results are truly a sight to behold. Expect an abundance of Halloween spirit from the residents on October 31!

Happy Halloween!

When the leaves start to change, so does the beer selection at your neighborhood taproom. The return of that familiar fall chill means that we are seeing fewer of those light, fruity sours and more hearty pumpkin-flavored ales, all of which are sure to go well with the tailgates and harvest events filling your fall calendar! Cleveland breweries have certainly honored that warm-to-cold transition in their newly released brewskies. From ales to stouts, here are some local, autumn-inspired beers that deserve a spot in your fridge all season long. Bottoms up!

Masthead Brewing Co.

Pumpkin Spice Latte IPA ABV 7.5%

It isn't truly fall if you aren't drinking a PSL! So throw on your favorite sweater and head to Masthead Brewing Company for their latest concoction: the Pumpkin Spice Latte IPA! This gorgeous brew was created with real pumpkin, cinnamon sticks, whole nutmegs, cloves, coffee beans from Six Shooter, and real Madagascar vanilla beans.

Working Class Brewery

Clock Out P.B. Stout ABV 6.0% This fall, Working Class Brewery has their popular Clock Out P.B. Stout on tap! This sweet chocolate stout is infused with creamy peanut butter—what more could you want on a chilly fall day? We can't wait to sip this one near a cozy fire this season.

Great Lakes Brewing

Nosferatu Imperial Red Ale ABV 8.0%

Great Lakes Brewing encourages beer fans to not be afraid of things that go hop in the night—like this rich Imperial red ale. This spooky beer, named for one of the most notorious vampires to ever haunt storybooks, is ruby red in color and features a toasty malt body lurking beneath a delightfully bitter, hoppy bite.

Forest City Brewing

Kurbisleichen Pumpkin Ale   ABV: 8.2% Forget pumpkin spice lattes—pumpkin-flavored beer is where it's at. This Kurbisleichen-style ale is full-bodied and packed with autumn flavors. The sweetness of the pumpkin and the aromatic notes of allspice, nutmeg, ginger and clover meld well with German Pale and Dark Munich malts, creating a rich profile to warm the soul and transition you into the colder months.

Platform Beer Co

S'Mores Yammy ABV 7.9%

One sip of S'mores Yammy from Platform Beer Co. will transport you to a cozy campfire in the Ohio wilderness where spooky stories are both made and told. Enjoy all the tastes of the classic campfire dessert blended of the satisfyingly sweet spiced sweet potato ale.

Goldhorn Brewery

The Dead Man's Curve IPA ABV: 8.0% Goldhorn Brewery isn't the oldest brewery in town (established in 2016), but its beers reach back to the rich heritage and traditions of the Cleveland community. This beer, named for Cleveland's most infamous stretch of highway, delivers a delicious piney hop flavor and a citrusy aroma. As an American IPA, it provides the perfect balance between bitter and fresh, and is the perfect sipper for warm autumn afternoons!

Noble Beast Brewing Company

Roasted Sweet Potato Saison ABV 7%

When October rolls around, look for this light and flavorful autumn saison from Noble Beast Brewing Company. Instead of adding more pumpkin to the gauntlet of fall-themed beverages, this beer will feature the more palatable sweet potato. The beer will be fermented with Belgian Saison yeast, which creates a smooth spice profile to complement the natural sweetness.

The BottleHouse

Space Moth - Black Lager ABV 4.2% Coming in at a light 4.2% ABV, this drinkable dark lager is a soul-warming treat for colder months. Brewed with notes of lightly roasted coffee and bready malts, Space Moth is a fantastic drink for new dark beer drinkers and pretty much anyone else who loves beer.

Cheers!
